IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING THE BIRD FLU H5N1

YES, WE ARE STILL FEEDING RAW! As for the health concerns with cats eating the raw, only one company called Northwest Naturals Turkey was contaminated and showed traces of the H5N1. This is a premade commercial food. If you choose to buy premade raw then it is up to you to research if human grade ingredients are used. Only human grade ingredients are considered safe at this time. If your cat is allowed to go outdoors to hunt/eat birds then your cat may be exposed. There are some dairy farms that were also affected, but it was more severe in May of 2024. Please do NOT give RAW MILK as it can be contaminated. Unlike the pet food industry, the USDA inspects the meat we eat and imposes stricter guidelines. WE ARE NOT FEEDING PET FOOD, WE ARE FEEDING FOOD FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION. You can refer to the CDC's website for more information on cases, what type of meat was affected and the locations. Some people have created chats causing alarm about cooking their raw food. The problem with this is, the recipes are affected. The Protein, bone, organ ratios, moisture and fat content changes when cooked along with the nutrients. **Cooked bone is a choking hazard to both cats and dogs.** If you don't feel confident with feeding raw during this time then make sure you are feeding an age appropriate wet food to optimize growth and kidney health. Here at ReallyCoons we would feed Wellness Core/Complete Health wet kitten food for up to 18 months and then transition to Wellness Complete Health wet Turkey as its low in phosphorus.
